A Note from the Director

The Boys & Girls Club of Gregg County has come a long way in the last five years.  The Club has moved from a rented facility to a building designed just for a Boys & Girls Club.  Now it is even moving to expand to additional areas in Gregg County.

In 2002 the Club was located in a church gym with a small game room upstairs and a couple classrooms.  It had outdated computers, old repaired equipment and limited supplies.  The Club was serving about 500 kids a year with about 100 attending daily.

Today, the Club is located in a building designed to support a Boys & Girls Club.  It has a large game room, classrooms for homework help, tutoring, arts & crafts leadership groups and teens.  The computers and equipment are all new and well maintained.  The Club has access to a gym, baseball and soccer fields and a playground.  Today we serve over 1,200 kids yearly with nearly 300 attending daily.

The biggest change in 2007 was the opening of our second unit.  The new unit opened in Kilgore on October 15, 2007.  Through the generosity of Paula Martin Jones Charities the old Railroad Commission building was renovated for the Boys & Girls Club and the Kilgore Unit moved in on January 7, 2008.  It is serving about 80 children daily.

With all the changes of the last five years the Board of Directors and the Staff of the Club have kept one thing in mind.  The Club is here to serve children, safely, with quality, life enhancing programs.  It will provide those programs and activities while being good stewards of the investments of our donors and volunteers.  In short, the Boys & Girls Club will be the "Positive Place for Kids" and use the funds and talents of our donors and volunteers to effectively help our youth reach their maximum potential.

As the Club continues to grow, it will continue to place the children first and to be good stewards of our donor’s investments.  The Club will work to ensure that our children have every opportunity to succeed and excel in the Club and in life.  The Club will do everything it can to help the children in Gregg County become the best they can be.

Now is your opportunity to help.  It just takes one moment to help a child.  Your investment of time and/or money may be the difference in a child's life.  Where would you be today if someone had not invested in your life?  You can make a difference!  Invest in the future.  Support the Boys & Girls Club of Gregg County by donating or volunteering.

Thank you on behalf of the kids,

Joseph Stiewe
